The dried root, whole or chopped, of this herbaceous plant with distinctive pink flowers is used. The polyphenols present in its composition (caffeic acid and chicoric acid) give it antimicrobial properties against bacteria, fungi and viruses, making it a genuine alternative to chemical antibiotics. This plant is considered one of the best natural antibiotics. The reason for this property is its ability to stimulate the immune system, producing more white blood cells. It also stimulates the production of interferon, a protein produced by the body to neutralise viruses. Several clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of echinacea preparations, especially in the prevention and treatment of viral infectious diseases (mainly the common cold and flu), with the added advantage of excellent tolerance. The effect of echinacea preparations on the incidence and duration of the common cold has been evaluated, showing a significant decrease in both parameters. It should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in cases of autoimmune diseases. It is also not recommended for prolonged use. Ingredients: Dry extract of echinacea (Echinacea purpurea (L), Moench, root) (300 mg); stabiliser: microcrystalline cellulose, coating agent: neutral methacrylate copolymer.
